Mosquito Control

Mosquito spraying usually takes place in El Lago on  Mondays and Thursdays beginning at 9:00 pm from April 15th through October 15th, but can take place more often or on other days when necessary. Spraying occurs when wind and weather predictions allow.  


Mosquito Control Chemicals

The City of El Lago uses only mosquito control chemicals which have been tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. No chemicals are used which have proven to be damaging to either public health or the environment. The City of El Lago mosquito control operators are licensed Pest Control Applicators through the Texas Department of Agriculture and must annually update their training in order to retain their licenses.

West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-born virus. The elderly and small children are at a higher risk for disease caused by WNV. The following are tips for avoiding West Nile Virus.

  • Wear DEET
  • Avoid outside activity at dusk and dawn during mosquito season (May to October)
  • Wear protective clothing
  • Make sure that door and window screens fit tightly
  • Drain all standing water such as flowerpots, tires, birdbaths, and plastic swimming pools.
  • Make sure roof gutters drain properly and clean clogged gutters.
  • Repair leaky plumbing and outside faucets
  • Stock ornamental ponds with mosquito eating fish
  • Don’t wash lawn clippings into the storm sewers
  • Draing water from tree holes and stumps
